Public library guide
Explore community language, culture and living memory at your own pace. You do not need to belong to a class.
Find your starting point
- Open Start here to choose a learning, cultural, tourism or research path.
- Explore all modules or select a cultural subject. Collections contain only published material permitted for public access.
- Use Collections for individual archives and More & settings for other tools. The My manual shortcut opens this guide.
Find a story, word or recording
- Open the menu and choose a collection, or open Public library to explore everything.
- Choose your community, enter a search and use the media controls at the bottom for images, audio, video or transcripts.
- Open an item or choose Read more for its complete description. Use Close details or Escape to leave an open item.
Understand the public interface
- Menus, login, settings and other interface text start in English. After an editor saves a community-language translation, it appears first with smaller English beneath it.
- Choose a community with the language selector. Labels without an approved translation remain in English.
- Use the content-language control within a collection to read its original or English version. This changes the content without changing navigation labels.
Ask CULTURAL HERITAGE
- Open CULTURAL HERITAGE and ask about Luo culture, history, songs or Dholuo language, or select a suggested question. Tick Allow AI processing for this chat, then send.
- Ask in English or Dholuo. Expand See translation in Dholuo or See translation in English below the answer. Chat settings selects the fallback language for ambiguous questions and explains AI processing. Check expandable Sources and Related media when they are available.
- Your chats opens saved conversations after sign-in. New chat starts a separate conversation. Use X to close the assistant; Escape closes an open menu or history first, then closes the chat.
Play, download and save
- Use the recording's play controls to listen or watch. Starting another recording pauses the previous player. If playback fails, choose Try again or download the original.
- Choose Download complete item (ZIP) to include full descriptions, available translations, transcripts and original attached files. Extract the ZIP and open index.html to view the item offline.
- Choose Download beside a permitted file, or Download text / transcript for the displayed text.
- Sign in to save words, items and conversations to your account. Previously downloaded learning resources can be opened from the offline library.
Use lessons, games and the tutor
- Choose Lessons, games & calendar, then select an activity suited to your level.
- Sign in to save progress or join a multiplayer game using an invitation code.
- For AI practice, choose AI language tutor and read the processing consent before submitting. Suggestions need fluent-speaker review; provider quota or browser speech support may limit availability.
Contribute something to the collection
- Sign in, choose Contribute & submissions, then select the correct community and collection.
- Supply the original and English versions, attach the files you are permitted to share and describe their consent and rights.
- Submit for review and follow its status in My submissions. Authorized staff may publish an uploaded version while review continues. Publishing the reviewed version replaces it at the same public link.
Manage your account
- Open your account menu for Settings & profile, saved conversations and sign out.
- Close the account menu by pressing its button again, clicking outside it, choosing Close menu or pressing Escape.
- Help & training always shows the guides for your current account. Sign out before using another person's account.
